Rohacell machining

Rohacell is hard to machine well. It is light, it is expensive, and it will tear, crush or heat-damage if the toolpath is wrong. Most of that comes down to cutter choice, feed strategy and how the part is held. We have been machining it since 2014, and we design and build our own vacuum fixtures in-house for parts that give you very little to clamp on to.

What we machine

• All ROHACELL grades. Tell us the grade and the geometry and we will quote it.
• Single cores, bonded and profiled assemblies, and kitted sets.
• One-offs and prototypes through to repeat production batches.
• Free-issue material, or material supplied by us. We machine all grades but we do not stock all of them, so lead time depends on whether the grade is on the shelf or on order.

How we work

Send us a STEP file and we will quote it. Straightforward parts usually come back the same day. Where the geometry or the fixturing needs more thought, allow up to a week.

We programme in CATIA V5 and simulate every toolpath in VERICUT before anything is cut, so collisions and gouges get picked up on screen rather than in the material. Jobs are scheduled through our ERP system, so the delivery date we give you is one we can hold.

First-article inspection is available on first-offs, including a colour deviation map from the Creaform scan against your CAD.

Common questions

Yes. We hold a range of materials in stock and are equally happy machining material you supply.

Yes. Pattern, mould tool and core can all come from us, cut on the same datums and inspected on the same system.

We do not need one in place to quote, but we will sign yours on request. We do so regularly for motorsport and defence work.
